The severity level varies: for example, Joanie is considered "moderate" while her daughter is considered "severe." This syndrome can have consequences for, among other things, breathing, feeding, and hearing. Throughout her life, Joanie has had to face prejudice from others. Before having a baby, she and her partner had several discussions, as there were genetic risks. From the first ultrasounds, Joanie knew that her daughter had the same syndrome as her, without knowing its severity. After a planned cesarean section, her daughter was taken into the care of the neonatal team: she required a tracheotomy and a gastrostomy at 10 days old. Several months in intensive care followed.
