TOP OF THE WORLD TOWER” DEDICATION EVENT (with friends) #PinhotiTrail

RETURN TO THE TOWER - HIKING TO THE DEDICATION EVENT With the Tower dedication event scheduled, ‪@MetroOnTheMove‬ & I decided to plan a hike from Flagg Mountain to Terrapin Hill, the location of the “Top of the world tower” for the dedication event. A day before the dedication event, we met at the Pinhoti Outdoor Center to be shuttled to Flagg Mountain. Monk, the POC attendant, drove us to the last 1,000’ mountain in the Appalachian mountain range ( ...yes that is in Alabama ) . After being dropped off, we start out by going to the top of Flagg Mountain Fire tower ( a first time visit for Metro ), then continue north on the Pinhoti Trail and stopping by Caperton's Old South Store where we get some chips and a Coca-Cola. After the break, we continue hiking northbound 8.6-miles to our first night’s camp at Bones Bend Camp. We have a cool and clear night in camp with a pleasant campfire and conversation. The next morning, we break camp and continue hiking northbound on the Pinhoti Trail the 5.1-miles to Terrapin Hill for the Tower dedication. Upon getting close, we could hear people talking and laughing. As we broke free from the forest, we see familiar faces and join in on this celebration. After speeches and a ribbon-cutting as everyone is dispersing, we ensure the area is clean (which it was ) with Nathan & Kimm Wright. We say our goodbyes. Metro & I were the last people on the mountain and begin our last few miles hike ( 3.6 ) to Kimm’s Camp. We have another great evening in camp discussing life by the campfire. Getting up the next morning, we hike the 4 or so miles to the Dollar General where we met Nathan Wright to be shuttle back to the POC. It was great getting to hike with Metro again and it was great celebrating the newest addition to the Pinhoti Trail ....the "TOP OF THE WORLD TOWER" at Terrapin Hill.
