COMPOST FUMIER ALGUES : TOUT SUR LES AMENDEMENTS ORGANIQUES AVEC LES CONSEILS DE PATRICK ET ROLAND
Improving our garden soil, making it vibrant, fertile, and easy to work, is a major concern for gardeners concerned with the success of their crops, as well as the ecosystem and biodiversity of their garden. In this segment from the thirtieth edition of NewsJardinTV's major podcast show "Bienvenue au Jardin," Patrick Mioulane and Roland Motte, the channel's star presenters, explain everything you need to know about organic amendments, their usefulness, and how to use them. First, our passionate gardeners clearly distinguish between fertilizer, potting soil, and organic amendments. The latter serve to improve the soil's physical structure and promote the development of microbiota, which makes it a living environment. Conversely, fertilizer nourishes plants and plays a primarily chemical role (even if it is of organic origin). Compost is the most commonly used organic amendment in gardens, but manure, seaweed, oil cake, grape pomace, peat, and vermicompost also play this role. They are incorporated into the soil primarily in the fall. Patrick explains that organic amendments bring microorganisms (the microbiota) to the soil, which enable the production of humus and the transformation of organic matter into mineral elements that can be assimilated by plants. It is the lifeblood of the soil. The editor-in-chief of NewsJardinTV focuses on manure, which acts both as a fertilizer because it is rich in nutrients and as an amendment due to its structure and texture. Be careful, guano, although 100% organic, is a fertilizer and not an amendment. Roland attaches great importance to carefully mixing amendments into the soil, using scratching rather than digging, in his opinion. Patrick points out that organic amendments also act as a buffer in the soil (a sort of sponge) because they have the ability to retain water well, which is very useful in sandy soils. Conversely, in heavy soils, these products contribute to decoagulation and aeration due to the presence of coarse elements. Here you have the video version of the "Expert Words" section of the weekly podcast show "Bienvenue au Jardin" No. 30. This is a format exclusive to NewsJardinTV. Lavishly illustrated, it allows you to better follow Patrick and Roland's advice and access additional information while watching.
