A 'Hole' lot of Welding! | Vectra SRI Fabrication

This week on Make Do Mechanics, I dive into some essential rust repair on the Vectra SRI — focusing on a notoriously rust-prone area: the rear inner arch and sill. What started off as a couple of small holes quickly turned into a much bigger job, revealing the true extent of the corrosion once I broke out the grinder. With rot spreading through the rear arch structure and sill, I had no choice but to cut out a large section of metal and fabricate multiple repair panels from scratch. Armed with basic tools — just a hammer, vice, grinder, and welder — and a good dose of determination, I managed to reconstruct the entire area piece by piece. This kind of work is critical to keeping these old Vauxhalls on the road. No fancy workshop, no expensive gear — just a home garage, a welder, and the will to do things right. If you're into fabrication, classic Vauxhall repairs, or real-world rust restoration, this video is a must-watch. Whether you’re working on a Vectra, Astra, or any car plagued by UK rust, you’ll pick up tips and inspiration to take on your own repairs.
