GRAND SUMMER CONCERT Thursday 27th June 2024 Southwark Cathedral The Purcell School Orchestra and Choir On Thursday 27th June The Purcell School held a concert at Southwark Cathedral to close the 2023-24 academic year. British conductor, organist and pianist, Wayne Marshall OBE performed Poulenc’s Organ Concerto, conducted by Paul Hoskins. In addition, after 31 years’ service to the school, Edward Longstaff marked his leaving by conducting Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Ecce Sacerdos by Bruckner with support from a choir of alumni. Based in Hertfordshire, just outside of London, the School provides a rounded education with music at its heart to around 180 talented students, most of whom go on to the top conservatoires and colleges for music, often with scholarships. Whilst at Purcell, students share a common bond in their passion for music with a community boasting creativity and mutual support. The School puts on nearly 100 events a year including concerts featuring our students and masterclasses with some of the most renowned musicians from across the globe.
