Kendrick Lamar, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Music, is one of the great rappers of today. Albums like To Pimp a Butterfly and DAMN. have placed Kendrick Lamar in the spotlight over the last decade. But what makes Kendrick Lamar such a unique artist? Tavos will look to Antiquity for the explanation, discussing the notions of Epic and Lyric poetry to investigate what makes Kendrick Lamar's poetics so rich. In the video, we'll try to show how the artist's two most recent albums, To Pimp a Butterfly (2015) and DAMN. (2017), each fit centrally into one of these categories of classical poetry.
