Récolter de la luzerne en foin - ARVALIS-infos.fr

From May 31 to June 6, 2012, the ARVALIS La Jaillière research station conducted a study on alfalfa harvesting, a delicate operation for farmers. On a plot belonging to the GAEC L'Héberge Rose farm in La Rouxière (44370), in the Pays d'Ancenis region, eight different agricultural tools were used, from mowing to baling, to determine which methods optimize the dry matter content of the forage, thus achieving the best compromise between quality and quantity. The study aimed, in particular, to retain as many leaves as possible in the forage, as these have higher nutritional value and protein content than the stems. In addition to immediate field observations, samples of each method were taken and carefully analyzed in the laboratory to assess the forage quality. The report of these analyses allows us to advise farmers not only on choosing the most suitable equipment, but also on the points they should pay particular attention to during harvest.
