Dog Breed Video: Irish Terrier

Ann Bradley has been keen on Irish Terriers since 1960 when her parents introduced one into their family. Her main interests today are in breeding and showing them. Irish Terriers differ from other long legged terriers in that they are more racey than square which makes them more suitable for activities like agility. They have a wiry coat, like many terriers, which needs stripping but this doesn't need to be done very often and having a dog that doesn't moult is an added bonus. They were originally bred as a guard dog and for killing vermin but, surprisingly, make good gun dogs too. Although they had a reputation years ago as a fighter, this problem has now been eliminated. Today, they make an active and family oriented dog and their fondness for food certainly helps with their training.
