Large roll up cabinet door using the Amana tambour set
I show the process of making a large roll-up TV cabinet door. The opening that this tambour covers measures 101x64 cm. (I fit a 43 inch TV in there, barely.) Do make this, I used the Amana tambour router set. It was expensive but it did the job well. It was not that complicated to set up and there seems to be some forgiveness in the final slats (tambours). Note that the set (currently) includes a round-over bit that is not really needed. They should remove it or replace it with the (see next line). You will also need to get a 9/16th inch straight bit. (this one) Overall, this was a fun project, albeit a bit tedious here and there, mostly because of the scale. You absolutely need a router table and fence (preferably with vacuum). Plan in advance how you intend to get the tambour into your cabinet carcass. I am very happy with the end result. Even though I could have simply bought a cloth-backed one. But where is the fun in THAT?? This is maple. (TBH, I am not sure if this is "hard" or "soft" maple. I just got whatever the lumberyard had in stock as "maple".)
