O JUNCAL E AS ESTEIRAS YAMAMOTO - REGISTRO SP
The production of reeds in the Ribeira Valley, in São Paulo, began in 1933, when Shigeru Yoshimura brought a seedling of the plant hidden in his luggage. The climate of the southern coast of São Paulo was ideal for the growth of reeds, which became an alternative for the recently established Japanese colony. Reeds are used to produce mats, slippers, caps, hats, poufs, cushions, and backpacks. Reed production is a typical and unique landscape, of great beauty and simplicity. Juncus is a botanical genus of flowering plants known as reeds, belonging to the Juncaceae family. It is a group of plants similar to grasses that generally grow in marshes. True reeds constitute a single family.
