My workshop has acquired a new tool. It's still unfamiliar and untested, but I bought a sample of a Japanese saw a while ago, and I've really taken a liking to sawing. So, I bought a set of three Japanese saws: a Ryoba Z-Saw, a Dozuki Fine, and a Kataba Cross set (No. 1 M00017562). Based on my work and testing, I'll try to write a review of the tool, share some interesting tips for using Japanese saws, and talk about its characteristics. So, today: The Z-Saw Ryoba S-250 backsaw is excellent for cutting across and along the grain. ​The Z-Saw Dozuki Fine 240 mm backsaw, 25 tpi, 0.3 mm, is designed for precision carpentry and restoration work on hardwoods. It's designed for perfect dovetail and other tenon joint cutting. It produces a mirror-like finish. Used for crosscuts and combination cuts. The Kataba Cross H-265 Z-Saw 265 mm, 14 tpi, 0.6 mm is designed for woodworking. It is primarily used for crosscuts and rough cutting of sheet metal.
