Today’s video is focused on drip irrigation MAINTENANCE. It’s good practice to check your system every year to make sure it’s running properly! This is something I am NOT good at doing, but let’s go through it together today! 💦 Enjoy! Check to make sure it’s running at the right timing and frequency. 💧Replace the Battery on the Controller -Most timers or controllers have batteries in case of power outages. Check the battery to make sure it is still working. If you have a timer on a hose bib, change the batteries like you would a smoke detector. 💧Inspect for Leaks, Clogs and Breaks -Check your system, clean all filters, valves and back flow preventers. Use a soft toothbrush. 💧Check the Drip Tubing for Breaks and Leaks -Slowly walk through your garden with the irrigation running and listen for leaks. Leaks can be caused by shovels, animals, weather, traffic or sun damage. Fix leaks that you find. 💧Assess Your Supplies and Replenish As Needed -Learn from my mistakes 😆 I ALWAYS run out of supplies. Check your kit and make sure you are all stocked up and ready to go for gardening season. 💧Examine Emitters and Move As Needed -Pull mulch away from crowns of plants and move emitters away. As plants grow the drip line increases. Move emitters appropriately to water the root zones. 💧Flush Out the System -Open up the 1/2” tubing by removing the end closures. Run each zone for a minute or 2. Turn off the zone the close the ends.
