This has been 2025

At the Red Cross, we respond to major disasters and everyday emergencies, and 2025 has been no exception. We have accompanied all those whose lives were affected by the DANA. Those who lost their networks, their homes, or their businesses. We have also been there for those affected by the most devastating fires of the 21st century or by the massive blackout that left much of the country without electricity, bringing light in the midst of darkness. Floods, fires, and heat waves are some of the most visible consequences of climate change, which is why we have continued to work on reducing our footprint and helping communities prepare for and respond to emergencies they may face in the future, knowing that they will not be alone. Not will the millions of people who bear the burden of unwanted loneliness, or those who need us to accompany them in caring for their mental health, another of our priorities that we have continued to work on this year through emotional support by telephone or support in strengthening the social networks that connect us with other people. In 2025, we celebrated a quarter of a century of the Red Cross Employment Plan, thanks to which more than half a million people have found job opportunities. Twenty-five years of creating opportunities, reducing barriers, promoting access to employment, and restoring hope to hundreds of thousands of people. All this work is based on the Fundamental Principles that we adopted 60 years ago at the International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent and which govern our humanitarian action. "In times of turbulence, the Principles are our compass. Thanks to them, we can see and not just look." Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, and Universality, deployed in every corner of the world. The universal dimension of our mandate has continued to strengthen humanitarian action and cooperation beyond our borders. With our focus on protecting the life and dignity of people, and reminding everyone of the urgent need to respect International Humanitarian Law, because, "Every day millions of people live with the uncertainty of whether the day that dawns will be their last. Yet, in the midst of all this, there is room for hope, because every day, millions of people choose to welcome those who arrive, to offer comfort to those who lose everything, to provide assistance in the midst of violence. This is how the Red Cross was born and this is how it continues every year." Thanks to the work of thousands of volunteers who help us every day to work for a better world, where humanitarian values prevail over any other consideration. In this effort, we were not alone in 2025. In our actions and in our effort to expand humanitarian thinking, many have joined us and accompanied us. There is still much to do, but we know that with your help we can continue building a fairer and more humane society, remaining firm in our purpose to continue being alongside people in the major disasters they face or in everyday emergencies.
