John Denver " The Quiet Challenge" Hilton Soaring Camp 1984 *Entire Film*

Many years ago I worked as a flight instructor at a place called High Country Soaring in Minden, NV. During the summer of 84 Barron Hilton hosted a soaring camp at his massive ranch just 50 miles east of Minden. His special guest that year was John Denver. An accomplished pilot with one hitch.. he did not have a glider rating on his Pilot Certificate. While at the ranch he wanted to take his kids for a ride in a sailplane. That's where I came in. I spent a few days flying with John and getting him ready for his flight exam with the FAA. All went well and as you will see in the film, both kids got their ride. John was so thrilled to have his new glider rating that he let me fly his beautiful Waco QCF 2 at the ranch. I worked as an instructor pilot, ride pilot, retrieve pilot and what ever else they threw at me during the week long camp. Was an amazing time and the memories of those days are irreplaceable. My friend Chris Woods put this together and even gave me a small cameo appearance at 19:06 running John's wing for his solo flight.
