The Error of Inerrancy (Ep 14)

Total inerrancy, or verbal inspiration, is not in the Bible and it’s not in the earliest Christian creeds. Yet for some Christians it is an absolutely essential part of Christian theology. But what do we actually mean when we say the Bible is inerrant? What do we get from it and what does it cost us to hold? Recommended videos to watch before this include: Episode 8 on the formation of the Bible:    • How We Ended up with the Bible (Ep 08)   Episode 9 on how the Bible was transmitted:    • Beneath Our Modern Bibles: Fixing Mistakes...   Episode 10 on translating the Bible:    • 400 Translations and None Agree: The Moder...   To dig deeper into this topic I highly recommend Peter Enn’s book, The Bible Tells Me So, an excellent book by a biblical scholar. For a less scholarly take, and in my opinion less helpful, Rob Bell’s What is the Bible is also good.
