That visit sent him on a collecting journey, encouraging him to create opportunities for artists and athletes to build relationships and learn about investing, financial literacy, and growth outside of the game. In this conversation moderated by curator Kimberly Drew, Jenkins and Strachan revisited their momentous encounter and discussed their experience in the art and sports worlds, charting a shared path toward meaningful cultural change. Tavares Strachan was born in Nassau, Bahamas, and currently lives and works between New York City and Nassau. He received a BFA in Glass from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2003 and an MFA in Sculpture from Yale University in 2006. He was the recipient of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation fellowship (2022) and was Artist in Residence at the Getty Research Institute (2019–20). Kimberly Drew is a leading voice in contemporary culture. She has held influential roles at the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and most recently served as the curatorial director at Pace Gallery. She is the co-editor, with J. Wortham, of the critically acclaimed anthology Black Futures, and the author of This Is What I Know About Art.
