Boston Police Officer Nicholas O’Malley was indicted on voluntary manslaughter charges for the fatal shooting of Stephenson King Jr. in Roxbury, Massachusetts on March 11, 2026. O’Malley fired three shots through a car window after King — who was in a stolen vehicle — allegedly failed to comply with commands and maneuvered the vehicle toward officers during a carjacking response. The prosecution says the force was excessive and not justified. The defense says O’Malley acted to protect himself, his partner, and the public. Bodycam footage is expected to be central to the entire case. This is one of the rarest cases in Massachusetts history — only one officer in the past 20 years has faced criminal charges for an on-duty fatal shooting in this state.
