But as convinced as the Reformed Reformed were of their belief in themselves as the True Church, few churches have emulated them. Marinus explains where this idea originated and what characteristics a "true church" possesses according to Reformed Christians. Why is it important to belong to a "true church"? Is it necessary to be accepted by God in grace? These days, Reformed Christians (since last year: Dutch Reformed Christians) generally no longer want to be associated with that past. But according to Marinus, it's a relevant question: "You're allowed to ask yourself on Sunday mornings whether you're in a true church." That's certainly more objective than the question, "Is this church right for me?" And doesn't everyone ultimately consider their church a true church (or at least a better alternative than the rest), and do Catholics, Orthodox, and Reformed Christians just talk about it more openly?
