Parent-Child Relationship (Verses 1-4) Child Duty: Children are called to obey and honor their parents "in the Lord." This is not just a social ethic, but the first commandment with a promise of blessings (happiness and long life). Parental Responsibility: Fathers (and parents in general) are warned not to stir up anger in their children through harsh or unfair parenting. Instead, parents are obligated to raise their children in the training and counsel of the Lord, to be role models of faith, and to educate with grace. 2. Servant and Master / Employee and Superior Relationship (Verse 5-9) Employee Work Ethos: A servant or employee is called to obey and work with fear, trepidation, and sincerity of heart. Work should be done not just to please people (seek face), but as a servant of Christ who does God's will with all his heart. Attitude of Leader/Superior: Masters or superiors are required to treat their subordinates fairly and avoid threats. They should realize that above them there is the same Lord in heaven, who does not look in the face (does not discriminate social status). Conclusion The true Christian life is tested by how we treat those around us. Both as parents, children, employees, and superiors, everything should be done as for God and not for man. Caption Often we separate the spiritual life in the church from the daily life at home or at work. However, Apostle Paul in Ephesians 6:1-9 reminds us that true faith actually shines through our closest relationships. For parents, our duty is not only to provide for the physical needs of our children, but most importantly: “Educate them in the teaching and advice of the LORD.” Avoid educating with anger that breaks their spirit, but rather guide them to know the love of Christ through the example of our lives. For those of us who work—both as employees and leaders—remember that the workplace is our field of service. Work sincerely, not just to please your superiors. And for leaders, lead with justice and love, because we are all responsible to the same Great Leader in heaven. Let's make every role that God entrusts to us a means to glorify His name! Amen.
