Al Green - 'Love And Happiness' [HD] | North Sea Jazz 2005

Love and Happiness" is a song by Al Green from his album I'm Still in Love with You. Green co-wrote the song with Teenie Hodges. It was released as a single in the United Kingdom on London Records in 1973 and in the United States on Hi Records in 1977. It has been covered by Etta James, Al Jarreau, and many other performers. The song was ranked #98 in Rolling Stones's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and #861 in Dave Marsh's The Heart of Rock & Soul: The 1001 Greatest Singles Ever Made. Soul Train historian Stephen McMillian called it "quintessential Al Green" and "one of the greatest soul songs of all time." Writing in Vibe, Alan Light called it "perhaps his most perfect song." ABOUT this concert = press release of 2005 Al Green, the great soul and gospel singer of the seventies, doesn't need any further introduction. With his silken cries, his sensual moans and breathtaking falsettos he represents pure soul to many of his admirers. He had a string of hits including Tired of Being Alone, Let's Stay Together, Can't Get Next to You and I'm Still in Love With You. When he side-tracked soul at the end of the seventies and, after a fall from the stage, definitely chose for religion, many of us feared that it wouldn't do any good to his music. He had his scorching come-back on the Blue Note label with I Can't Stop. Recently he released Everything's OK, a new album full of originals, except Joe Cocker's You Are So Beautiful. Green's songs once again have been produced by Willie Mitchell, with whom the singer formed such an impressive duo at the end of the seventies. Welcome to the official North Sea Jazz Archive!
