The Goa Dhangar Samaj has strongly condemned Alton’s repeated attempts to politicise the long-standing demand for Scheduled Tribe status for the Gouly-Dhangar community. The community has advised Alton to first study the issue in depth before making irresponsible statements. His suggestion that Shri Babu Kavlekar should have joined a political party only on the condition of securing ST status reflects his complete lack of understanding of the community’s struggle. The Samaj asserted that Shri Babu Kavlekar has always been one of the strongest voices and pillars of support for the Dhangar community and its ST movement.
