1999. LP. “Phoebe One (born Phoebe Esprit in London, England, U.K.) is a British rap recording artist, lyricist, producer, and radio personality. One was inspired to get into rapping due to her love for poetry. As she grew up, this was also due to her exposure to American hip hop. The first collaboration she ever had was with DJ Cinderella on the 1994 single/EP, "Put Down De Matic" (Phoebe One is credited simply as Phoebe here). A couple years later, she self-released her first solo EP, Running Wild. After making and releasing a few more solo, and collaboration singles, and EPs, she signed a deal with Mecca Recordings for her first LP, L.O.N.D.O.N. Style, released in 1999. The next year, she followed up with her second LP, TUFF Street Presents Phoebe One, on the label of the former's namesake of the album title. Three years later, she returned with her third album, Broken Soul, on Marsh Farm Records. It was at this point that One then turned to radio and she began hosting and promoting an R&B and hip-hop show called UK Cuts at the station, Choice FM. She has her own company called Rugged Chick Entertainment and won the MOBO Award for Best Hip Hop Act. To date, she still holds the distinctive honor of being the first and only UK/European female rapper nationally and internationally to have won that ever.
