Mike Stephenson interviews Matt King on Boots N All, 2012

In 2012, on the Sky Sports magazine show Boots N All, Mike 'Stevo' Stephenson conducted this moving interview with Matt King following the news that the former London Broncos junior was to receive an OBE for his services to charity. Matt had suffered a serious spinal injury on his Academy debut for the Broncos which left him confined to a wheelchair. His vertebrae may have been crushed but his spirit was anything but: in the remaining years of his life, Matt went on to inspire everyone around him with both his words and actions. Sadly, Matt passed away from complications caused by his injury in early 2021 aged just 33. Since then, the RL Benevolent Fund, which had provided incredible levels of support to Matt and his family, has partnered with the Rugby Football League to administer the Matt King Bursary, which sets out to inspire other young leaders in rugby league. Every year, up to £10,000 is awarded to young people aged between 16 and 25 to help them achieve their potential and make a positive impact in rugby league communities. The deadline for applications for this year's bursary is March 31 - if you know of a young person who fits the bill, please get them to apply. More details of the bursary, the difference it has made to the life of last year's chief beneficiary Nathan Mulhall, and how to apply are here: https://www.rugbyleaguecares.org/news...
