Its final broadcast included a performance at the Teatro Ópera.[1] It averaged a 16.0 rating in its 131 episodes.[2] It was directed by Miguel Colom. The story unfolds in the context of the kidnapping of people forced into prostitution and draws parallels with the Marita Verón case.[3] Susana Trimarco, Marita Verón's mother, advised the screenwriters Marcelo Camaño and Guillermo Salmerón.[4] The story revolves around Juliana Míguez, a young woman from Río Manso, a fictional town in the Province of Buenos Aires, who is kidnapped by a human trafficking network. Her perspective, from within the network, is represented, as is that of her mother, who tries to find and rescue her through various means, and that of the criminals who control this exploitation system. Initially, the story was based equally on the story itself and on a soap opera plot involving Facundo Arana, the most famous actor in the cast; however, the acclaim achieved by the most committed part of the plot led to it eventually encompassing the entire story and all its characters. The character of Bautista Amaya, played by Arana, acquires the characteristics of an action hero rather than those of a typical soap opera heartthrob.[5] Like previous novels such as Resistiré, El Deseo, and Montecristo, fiction was used as a means of social criticism.[6] The series was declared of social interest by the legislature of the city of Buenos Aires and by the Chamber of Deputies of the Argentine Nation,[1] and also won numerous awards, among which the Martín Fierro de Oro stands out in 2009.
