The bow grip is the most important part of creating a proper hand position, so the thickness of the grip must be tailored to the archer's hand size. If the grip is too large or too small, the bow will not be controlled correctly. There is an appropriate grip shape and size for efficient hand positioning. A thicker grip allows for more force and torque to be applied to the bow. Specifically, with the Tenmon-muscle resting against the left outer bamboo corner, the first joint of the pinky finger should catch on the right outer bamboo corner. If it doesn't catch, the grip is too thick. If the tip of the middle finger touches the ball of the thumb when the three fingers are aligned, the grip is too thin.
