In his keynote speech at Muhammadiyah's 113th anniversary at Muhammadiyah University in Bandung on Tuesday (November 18th), Haedar Nashir emphasized that welfare is not merely a normative phrase, but rather a mandate of the 1945 Constitution that must be realized in the real world. Haedar Nashir explained that the choice of the anniversary theme, "Advancing the Nation's Welfare," is a concrete implementation of the constitutional mandate, namely to advance general welfare. According to him, this mandate has very strong and authoritative power. "In our view, the effort to build the nation's welfare is an implementation of the constitutional mandate, namely to advance general welfare... that constitutional mandate is not merely normative, but actually has strong authoritative power." He emphasized that the words in the Preamble and the points of the 1945 Constitution reflect the spirit, ideals, and results of the struggle of the nation's founders, which later became the foundation of the state.
