How to liquify your Biogas
Biogas is mainly made up of methane and carbon dioxide, and to liquefy it, methane must be separated and purified. First, impurities like water vapor, hydrogen sulfide, and particles are removed through filtering and scrubbing. The gas is then upgraded by separating carbon dioxide, leaving mostly pure methane. Once purified, the methane is cooled step by step using special refrigeration systems. Cooling is necessary because methane only turns into liquid at very low temperatures, around –162°C. Compression may be used to reduce the gas volume before deep cooling. The gas passes through cryogenic heat exchangers that gradually bring it down to liquefaction temperature. At this stage, methane becomes a clear, energy-dense liquid called Liquefied Biogas (LBG). The liquefied form is easier to store, transport, and use as a renewable fuel alternative to fossil fuels.
