The Presidency has criticised Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s call for a United Nations-led investigation into the abduction of pupils and teachers in the state. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, says the request suggests a lack of confidence in Nigeria’s security institutions, arguing that security agencies have already provided explanations on the rescue operation. Onanuga questions the need for an international probe, saying there is no reason for security agencies to deliberately prolong the captivity of victims.
