In 2014, director Alisa Kovalenko was captured by Russian forces in Donbas. She was a survivor of sexual violence and remained silent about her experience for years. Later, her voice helped other survivors to begin to testify, and Ukraine became one of the countries that is shaping new international approaches to protecting victims of war-related sexual violence. Her films about Russia's war in Ukraine evoke words of support on international platforms. And the personal experience of a volunteer in the army serves as an example of responsibility to the state and her own child.
