Message in Obadiah 1:1-20 - Recorded at Pinheiros Presbyterian Church "The vision of Obadiah: Thus says the Lord GOD concerning Edom: We have heard the voice of the LORD, and an envoy has been sent to the nations, saying, 'Arise, let us rise up against her to battle.' Behold, I have made you small among the nations; you are greatly despised. The pride of your heart has deceived you, like one who dwells in the clefts of the rock, in his high place, who says in his heart, 'Who will bring me down to the ground?' Though you soar like the eagle, though you make your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down,' declares the Lord. If thieves came to you, or robbers by night (how you are destroyed!), would they not steal enough? If grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave some grapes? How were the goods of Esau! How your hidden treasures have been searched! All your confederates have brought you to the border; those who enjoy your peace have deceived you, they have prevailed against you; those who eat your bread have laid a snare under you; there is no understanding in him. Will it not be in that day, declares the Lord, that I will destroy the wise men from Edom, and understanding from the mountain of Esau? And your mighty men, O Teman, will be terrified, so that every one from the mountain of Esau will be cut off by slaughter. Because of the violence done to your brother Jacob, confusion will cover you, and you will be cut off forever. On the day you confronted him, on the day that strangers carried away his army captive, and foreigners entered his gates, and cast lots for Jerusalem, you too were like one of them. But you should not look with pleasure on the day of your brother in the day of his misfortune, nor rejoice over the children of Judah in the day of its destruction; nor open your mouth in the day of distress; Nor enter the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; yes, you should not look with satisfaction on their evil in the day of their calamity; nor seize their possessions in the day of their calamity; Nor stand in the crossroads to cut off those who escape; nor deliver up those who remain in the day of distress. For the day of the Lord is near upon all the nations; as you have done, so it will be done to you; your recompense will return upon your head. For as you have drunk on my holy mountain, so shall all the nations drink continually; they shall drink and swallow, and be as though they had never been. But on Mount Zion there will be deliverance, and it will be holy; and the house of Jacob will possess their inheritance. And the house of Jacob will be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau will be chaff; they will be kindled against them and consume them; and none will be left of the house of Esau, for the Lord has spoken. And those of the south will possess the mountain of Esau, and those of the lowland the Philistines; they will possess the fields of Ephraim and the fields of Samaria; and Benjamin will possess Gilead. And the captives of this army, of the children of Israel, will possess the Canaanites as far as Zarephath; and the captives of Jerusalem, who are in Sepharad, will possess the cities of the south. And saviors will come up on Mount Zion to judge the mountain of Esau; and the kingdom will be the Lord's. Obadiah 1:1-21 ____ Hernandes Dias Lopes, born in Nova Venécia, Espírito Santo.
