Steve Martin (The Left Banke) - Two By Two
One of the all-time loveliest love songs IMHO! Though this Mike Brown-penned 1971 B-side is credited to Steve Martin, it's basically the Left Banke in all but name, and gives a great hint of what might have been had they managed to continue working together. It eventually wound up on the soundtrack to "Hot Parts," a documentary about dirty movies produced by Dominic Sicilia (head of Kama Sutra Records, Mike Brown's label at the time). The flick hasn't resurfaced, but I'd love to see the contrast between this incredibly tender song and (presumably) the smut on screen. I tacked on one of Mike Brown's earliest efforts, Christopher & the Chaps' snotty folk-punk classic "They Just Don't Care," just to show more Banke pics. Pictures were "borrowed" from Charlemagne's ultra-fantastic leftbanke.nu site, the leftbankism yahoogroup, and my own modest collection of Banke-abilia. [Jeff Winfield had nothing to do with these tracks per se, but I still wish him R.I.P.]
