Tombak Instruction with Pejman Hadadi - Beginner level - Video 4 When playing the Por (Eshareh) technique, pay attention to the fowling: Start with you lower (Right) hand, relax your wrist by letting it loose completely. In this case what you’ll notice as you can see in the video, is that your hand is kind of hanging in a downward direction. The sound you hear basically comes from a loose and relax wrist, also by keeping the fingers loose. The order of the fingers landing on the drumhead are from: Thumb to Pinkie to Ring to Middle and to index. When you strike, bounce back your hand. In other words don’t leave it on the drumhead and go back to the initial position. The upper (Left) hand doesn’t involve the Thumb on the drumhead. Instead raise your thumb a little bit and leave it next to your hand. Raise your hand, let your palm face out (imagine you’re waiving to someone) strike and bounce your hand back up to the same position. The raising hand position (waiving position) should be done when practicing at a slower tempo. When you practice it faster it shouldn’t be exaggerated and there is less range of motion to your hand. Again, your fingers don’t land on the drumhead at the same time and they are thrown from Pinkie to Ring to Middle and to index. You can then combine the 2 hands by first playing them separately (4 or 8 times) each, then combine them at a double time speed and repeat this sequence by speeding it up each time.
