Alice Winn on In Memoriam // Book Club
‘It was a magical thing, to love someone so much; it was a feeling so strange and slippery, like a sheath of fabric cut from the sky.’ Her Majesty’s second book club pick of this winter season is Alice Winn’s haunting novel ‘In Memoriam’, a tale of forbidden love blooming against the backdrop of World War One. Meticulously researched, ‘In Memoriam’ is at once gripping and profoundly moving, offering an unflinchingly honest portrayal of a generation tragically lost. Alice Winn is a novelist and screenwriter based in Brooklyn. She grew up in Paris, was educated in British boarding schools and studied English Literature at Oxford University. ‘In Memoriam’ is her debut novel, with a second one currently in the works.
