The island of Elba is a collection of very diverse ecosystems, which makes preserving them quite a complex task. In my opinion, one of the best ways to take care of it is to protect and preserve the species that live here. One organization that truly has this mission in its DNA is Legambiente. They have several ongoing projects, ranging from educational programs and environmental cleanups—as an aside, humans can sometimes be real pigs—to protecting the species that call Elba home. One of these projects, and certainly one of the most important ones, focuses on the care of Loggerhead (Caretta caretta) sea turtles. So, when they invited me to take part in the initiative, despite a few doubts—mostly related to the hours this activity requires—I decided to join. It is undoubtedly a demanding task, and we could really use everyone's help, even if just for a single day. Sea turtles can be considered an indicator of the sea's health. Encouraging and protecting their survival could mean passing down a better environment to our children.
