Спускаюсь из цирка перевала Аршанского к реке Китой, начинаю соло сплав 102 км на пакрафте. День 2/4

The forced march continues. The morning is beautiful, the sun is shining. I put on my rain jacket and boots, as there's a heavy dew and I have to crawl through bushes. It would seem: the descent down, what could be easier? But it's not. I crawled to the shore of Kitoy by sheer force of will. The sun beats down mercilessly. The wind offers little relief. I eat lunch from a thermos and slowly load out the packraft. During the hiking section, I interacted with two groups and three solo hikers: one group was heading to Shumak, the second was looking for Trekhglavaya, but there's no track mapped there on maps.me, so they couldn't find it. The first solo hiker was coming from Shumak and descending to Kitoy along the Bilyuta; the second was a local, returning from fishing in Arshan; the third was Oleg, a 75-year-old man from Novosibirsk who has been hiking all his life and even wrote a book about it. He hiked to Shumak along the "100 Fords" route. The section of the Kitoy downstream from Fedyushkina Rechka has significant elevation changes and narrowings with rocks, so on the first day I had to carry the boat and gear along the bank a lot. I'm alone and want to live, and I'll gain experience with time. The water in the river is crystal clear, slightly greenish in the sun. The bottom is clearly visible. It's surreal, like being in an aquarium. The second part of the day was filled with feelings of delight and heavy portages along the rounded rocks of the banks. For some reason, almost all the portages were along the right bank. There's little sand along the banks. It's very smooth and unusual. I saw washed-out hoofprints, but I didn't see any bear tracks. The mouth of the Kitoy-Kin River was especially impressive: a white stream bursts out of the dark taiga and crashes into the emerald waters of the Kitoy, forming a dark green pit with a powerful whirlpool and a rocky left bank. You can swim along the right bank, just be careful not to get sucked into the current. In the evening, the colors become more beautiful and warmer. To the right, on the shallows, are the frames of buildings made for awnings. Apparently, a large group lived here. The shore curves into a bay, a paradise. And above them, a graceful waterfall cuts into the rock. It's time to look for a place to spend the night, but this isn't Irkutsk; it's wild taiga all around. I'm ready to stop on the shallows, but as I pass another beautiful creek before Udugasha, I see a canopy behind it. The place is simply gorgeous. Probably the best in the middle of Kitoy. I go ashore. The canopy is built over a table. On the table are dishes and food. To the right is a fire pit, pans, and pots. I call out to people. Further in the forest stands a hut. I call out again. No one is there. The doors of the hut are wide open, and inside, everything is spacious and tidy. The iron stove is simply enormous. Judging by the footprints in the sand, people were here quite recently. There's no sign of a bear. I pitch a tent nearby on a sandy terrace overlooking the river and the Eastern Sayan Mountains. I try fishing, as the spot is clearly fishable, but nothing happens, only a couple of small fish swim by. Today I've swum about 13 km out of 102. Anxiety creeps in that I won't make it in time. I close my eyes and dream of the turbulent currents of the clear river.
