This "Clean" 1977 VW Bus Needed Everything

On this episode, Brandon at Be Aircooled begins the revival of a 1977 Volkswagen Bus that was purchased as a surprise gift from a wife to her husband. What appeared at first glance to be a clean, honest Bay Window Bus quickly revealed a long list of mechanical needs hiding beneath the surface. The front brake system comes apart for a complete inspection and rebuild, including new front wheel bearings, bearing races, seals, rotors, brake hoses, and freshly rebuilt original VW brake calipers. Along the way Brandon encounters seized hardware, frozen brake adjusters, questionable previous repairs, and all the other surprises that seem to come standard with a classic Volkswagen that's spent decades sitting. As the work continues, the rear brakes prove even more stubborn, turning a routine service into a full brake restoration complete with plenty of old-fashioned "pound-and-bang" persuasion. By the end of the episode the front end is back together, the wheel bearings are properly packed and adjusted, and the foundation is laid for bringing this 1977 VW Bus back to reliable road-going condition.
