In 1898, as Spain lost the Philippines, a small detachment of soldiers remained entrenched in the Church of San Luis de Tolosa in Baler. Isolated from the world, surrounded by Filipino revolutionary forces, they suffered hunger, disease, and a siege that lasted almost a year. They weren't fighting for glory. They were fighting to fulfill the oath they had sworn to their flag and their comrades. Their resistance became one of the most admired military feats in Spanish history and continues to be studied as an example of leadership, discipline, cohesion, and resilience in internationally renowned military academies. Today we pay tribute to those men with a new song from España en Rock y Sangre (Spain in Rock and Blood). Because some stories deserve to be told...
