In this example, the main problem was that the neighbor below had filled in the drainage ditch, thereby blocking drainage from all the properties above. In the spring, all the properties in the low-lying area, including their garden and vegetable patch, were flooded by meltwater. The owner's initial solution, to install only a closed, forced drainage system, didn't work, and the water remained. The solution to this situation: We installed concrete drainage channels around the perimeter of the property, connecting all the branches into one and draining them into a receiving pit made of concrete rings. The pit houses a sewage pump capable of grinding small debris and pumping up to 38 cubic meters of water per hour. The drainage pump turns on when the pit fills with water and pumps it through a HDPE pipe, through the neighboring property, into a drainage ditch, which carries the water to the river. This combination of drainage channels (concrete channels) and forced drainage saved not only our client's property but also the adjacent low-lying properties from flooding in the spring.
