Cliff top picnic -Les Barker poem

Couldn't resist putting a bit of 'theatre' to one of that delightful wordsmith (Les Barker) poems...........how he thinks of them I do not know..........check his Youtube channel for more examples Words as I remember them...the original is probably more succinct 1)It was a sunny summer's day on a cliff top by the sea I'd made myself a picnic lunch, just some sandwiches and tea I'd only been there half an hour, when I heard a sort of moan and gradually it came to me ,that I was not alone 2)he was hanging by his fingertips from the edge of the abyss he's been there quite a while, but let me tell you this when it comes to cliff top picnics, it pays to be particular always go for the horizontal bit- never the perpendicular 3)He'd already lost his tablecloth and his condiments as well his teapot too was missing, he were upset-I could tell But there was no long preamble or extended explanation He limited himself to 'HELP' by way of conversation 4) now it is a very English thing, but as he hung above the sea Hanging by his fingertips, I said " Would you like a cup of tea?" and I poured him out a cup- and he seemed quite elated he took it from me straight away.....perhaps he should have waited. 5)Clinging by his left hand in his right his cup of tea he hadn't many options.. his fate were up to me and in view of his position my next move was not a smart'un I said "do you take milk?" and handed him the carton 6)Oh I thought that I had lost him to the crashing waves so far beneath but as he passed an overhanging branch-he caught it in his teeth In his left hand still the milk-in his right hand still the cup I peered over the cliff edge, I looked down and he looked up 7)Some time later- they asked if it was my fault...... Nooooo......... though I must confess to great unease because I called down "do you take sugar?" and he looked up and said "Yes please"
