In a phone call with YTN, the whistleblower described the incident, saying, "Mr. A asked me to open the front door when he arrived at the bus stop. The driver politely told him to use the back door to get off. Mr. A then started swearing and yelling at me to open the door." The whistleblower also reported, "When the driver refused to open the door, Mr. A kicked it and even approached the driver's seat, attempting to open it himself." He continued, "I held him back so he and other passengers could not escape." The bus driver and passengers immediately reported the incident to the police as the situation escalated. Due to Mr. A's unruly behavior, the bus was halted for approximately 10 minutes. While assault under general criminal law carries a sentence of up to two years in prison and a fine of up to 5 million won, assault on a driver of a motor vehicle while in motion under the Special Punishment Act carries a sentence of up to five years in prison or a fine of up to 20 million won. Therefore, it is considered a very serious crime." He also explained, "Some of you may be wondering if the person causing the disturbance in this case actually assaulted the driver, since he didn't directly hit him. However, pushing and pulling his hands or clothing can also be considered a form of violence. Even if there was no direct physical contact, there are cases where swinging hands, feet, or objects from close range as if to strike can be considered assault. In this case, repeatedly kicking the driver's seat where the driver was sitting or pulling his arms and hands to force the door open would clearly be considered assault.
