According to Reuters, a father, mother, and four-year-old son were rescued from the first floor of a collapsed eight-story building in La Guaira, a Venezuelan coastal city struck by two powerful earthquakes, on the 25th local time. This was 25 hours after the earthquake struck. The family filmed themselves inside the rubble of the building they had held onto. In the cramped space, they were seen trying to reassure their young son while listening intently to the situation outside. As the four-year-old son, mother, and father were rescued in that order, the mother repeatedly shouted "Thank you" and hugged her family. The grandfather, José Alberto Gallipoli Lameda, who was waiting outside the building, held his grandson tightly in his arms as he was rescued. In an interview with Reuters on the 26th, Mr. Lameda said, "The building was eight stories tall, and my son lived on the first floor; the entire upper floor collapsed right on top of him." He continued, "According to my son, the height of the remaining space was about 60 to 70 cm. When the ceiling collapsed, it struck his head hard, but he quickly threw himself to the floor, holding his grandson in his arms to protect him." He also added, "A piece of nearby furniture supported the weight of the ceiling, creating a small space for survival."
