Zamiokulkas. Co to za roślina? Jak o nią dbać? Jak przesadzać, podlewać i nawozić?

Zamioculcas! 💚 What is this plant? How to care for it? How to repot, water, and fertilize it? A refresher on this information will be the topic of today's video from the "House Full of Flowers" series. Enjoy! Zamioculcas have become a permanent fixture in our homes, offices, and other workspaces. They are very hardy and long-lived plants, but to keep them looking their best for years to come, it's worth remembering their requirements. And these requirements stem from the conditions in which these plants grow in nature. It's worth reminding ourselves of them. My Zamioculcas, in two varieties: the traditional one with green leaves, and the unique one with almost black leaves, are due for inspection. So what should I look out for? The Zamioculcas zamiofolia is native to tropical and subtropical regions of East Africa, including Tanzania, Kenya, and Madagascar. There, in its natural environment, it's consistently warm, averaging 20-30 degrees Celsius year-round. There are no frosts or significant temperature fluctuations. Just like in our homes, this is why this plant thrives in indoor cultivation. I've had my Zamioculcas in a large pot for almost 10 years. There's also no need to take these plants outside in the garden or on the balcony in summer. Although, if you do, they can survive the warmest months outdoors in the shade. However, frosty drafts in the ground can be harmful. Temperatures below 5 degrees Celsius can destroy Zamioculcas; it shouldn't be exposed to temperatures below 15 degrees Celsius. In nature, this plant grows in forests, on forest edges, in semi-desert, rocky areas, and in places where light filters through the tree canopy, which explains its tolerance to partial shade and shade. And here, it's important to note the word "tolerance." Zamioculcas will survive even in a very shady spot indoors, but that doesn't mean they'll thrive there. If the leaves begin to elongate excessively, lose their characteristic compact, upright shape, and become droopy, it's a sign that the plant is too dark and should be moved to a more sunny location. This also happens in our climate due to the short winter days and the fact that Zamioculcas often sprout new leaves in winter. In its natural habitat, this plant has no distinct seasons, so it doesn't go dormant. This means it requires the same care in summer, spring, autumn, and winter, both in terms of watering and fertilization. However, because the days shorten significantly during our winter months, you can reduce feeding and watering slightly from November to February. But don't completely abandon it, especially if you see new leaves sprouting. You can even buy special liquid fertilizers for Zamioculcas in stores. This type of multi-component fertilizer, with its carefully balanced composition, provides comprehensive benefits, providing plants with all the essential nutrients and ensuring intense leaf color and shine. It's also important to ensure adequate light, so my specimen will be placed directly under a south-facing window during the winter; in the summer, I'll move it a bit further away. This is because strong sunlight can burn the leaves. From March to September, we can fertilize Zamioculcas with the full dose indicated on the packaging; from October to February, the dose can be reduced, for example, to half. Zamioculcas has a unique structure that allows it to survive harsh environmental conditions. This plant has developed a corm, a thick, fleshy, underground organ that stores water and nutrients. It has a shape similar to a potato tuber. When properly hydrated, it is round and firm. When the plant is deprived of water and nutrients for a longer period, it begins to draw on its stored reserves, causing it to become slightly dry and wrinkled. But the leaves still look magnificent. The adventitious roots of Zamioculcas grow directly from the rhizome and also have the ability to store water, as do the shoots, which are supposedly stems but are actually stiff leaf petioles, bearing many individual oval leaves with a shiny, thick, leathery surface, which reduces water loss through evaporation. In nature, Zamioculcas bloom, and their flowers take on a spadix shape. However, this rarely happens indoors. It is one of the easiest houseplants to grow and is extremely attractive, especially for those who enjoy ornamental foliage. I wish you joy in growing Zamioculcas.
