The Mighty 1941 Cat D2 5J Versus The Tree

Early spring finds the mighty little 1941 Cat D2 5j taking on a 14" diameter Jniperus Virginiana Cedar tree. Fortunatly larger cedar trees trunks do not break off at the root ball like smaller ones often do. They simply resist giving up the ground. This battle is a continuation of the land clearing and improvements project as part of the eventual escape from suburbia. As of 2023 the 82 year old Caterpillar D2 tractor has paid for itself over and over with the some 200 hours put on it since its purchase in 2018. That use has been taking a toll. Most notable is the main clutch where indications of slipping are present. Though not 100% sure, there may be no more adjustment left in the clutch and is soon in need of rebuild.
