"Snarefication" , an installative Instrument by Grigorii Osipov

This installative Instrument is an investigation of the resonance of metallic surfaces with snare drum snares (strings on the bottom side of snare drum). This idea forms the basis of this work. The musical material is inspired by glitch music, in which clicks and musical artifacts, so undesirable in many genres of music, form the basis. The pulsations and polyrhythms on which this work is based form a kind of polyphony in which each voice also has its own visual, lighting accompaniment. This work is inspired by Rebecca Saunders’ “Dust.” It is a unique work for solo percussion with a length of about 40 minutes, in which the composer uses many special techniques for sound production. The sound of the resonating snare of a snare drum is an astonishing and not so frequently used effect. It is usually perceived as something that needs to be eliminated. In Rebecca Saunders’ “Dust” and in “Snarefication,” it is deliberately brought to the fore.
