Arroyo Pescadero Hiking Trail in Whittier, California

Arroyo Pescadero is one of our favorite beginner hikes in Whittier, California. It's approiximately 2 miles, and you can add the 0.8 mile Deer Loop Trail if you want. It's relatively flat, with a 288ft elevation gain according to alltrails.com. To go the same route we do, turn right when you enter the trail, and soon afterward there is a split in the road, where you want to turn left. The next split in the road you'll encounter (awhile away) is Deer Loop Trail; go right if you'd like to do Deer Loop, otherwise go left. While we've never seen any deer on the Deer Loop Trail, there's a lot of wildlife throughout the trail; birds, rabbits, lizzards, coyotes.... To get there, travel north on Colima from Mar Vista and there is a parking lot on the left (across the street from baseball fields). You'll know you're in the right parking lot if you see a metal gate decorated with animals all over it. You may have to wait for a parking spot because there aren't a lot of parking spaces.
