Conductor Kent Nagano | Talks re: Music & Beyond | George Enescu Phil

“Success in life can only be superficially defined by fame and money. The only people who are truly successful are those who are able to leave behind traces of themselves in the lives of their fellow human beings,” writes distinguished conductor Kent Nagano in his book 10 Lessons of My Life – What Really Counts. “We, the human species, are known to learn in social contexts,” he added. That is exactly what we thought as well when we launched our Talks re: Music & Beyond series alongside the 2025/26 Season: to seize the opportunity of having so many internationally acclaimed artists performing in the George Enescu Philharmonic’s Season and turn it into great, insightful conversations of discovery and learning. Conceived not as interviews, but as moments of presence - spaces of genuine listening and reflection, where the wisdom of artists extends far beyond music – these conversations were inspired by Respiro, the umbrella concept of our 2025/26 Season, which invites the audience to find a moment of stillness as authentic presence through music, a safe haven from the existential noise in which we live these days. Talks re: Music & Beyond are meant to offer our audience a different kind of pause, allowing them to breathe, and to discover how great musicians draw resilience, clarity, and inspiration from their life journeys and music Our conversation with Kent Nagano on Leadership Without Words, moderated by Oana Marinescu, has definitely left a beautiful trace in our lives: one of the Maestro’s charisma and wisdom, as well as his wonderful sense of humor, clarity, acumen, and magical connection to the universe of music.
