The Toyota Yaris Cross is a B-crossover whose success is driven by Poland. What's the point? Poland is an interesting case in point in the European automotive market. Only in Poland have Skoda and Toyota alternated reigns for years. The Skoda was homely, while the Toyota was a breath of Peweks-style luxury. If over the past few months you've caught glimpses of enthusiastic media reports about the benefits of a car not yet in showrooms, I'm at the Polish launch of the Toyota Yaris Cross today and I'll tell you what it's like. The Toyota Yaris Cross is a longer and taller Yaris with optional all-wheel drive. And this optional all-wheel drive is what truly sets the Yaris Cross apart from the competition. In this segment and price range, only the Suzuki Vitara is offered with all-wheel drive. Another similarly sized competitor, the KIA Stonic, is only available with front-wheel drive. Like other small B-crossovers. All-wheel drive is only available in larger cars, such as the Hyundai Kona or Volkswagen T-Roc. The all-wheel drive system in the Yaris Cross is interesting because the rear axle is powered by an additional electric motor.
