Choorakkodi Kalari Sangam has established in 1976 by Kunhi Moosa Gurukkal. At present more than 200 students are under him and his senior students. The Kalari is located at Villiappaly, Vadakara, in Kozhikode (Calicut) district. C K S has an important role to encourage, promote and popularize this martial arts. Our Kalari has given many contributions to reconstitution of Kalarippayattuu as a modern proposal. C K S has developed a special syllabus of traditional techniques to teach its senior students. It has got the certification from Govt. Of India. It is affiliated to different Kerala Govt. Cultural Organizations. Choorakkodi Kalari Sangam is affiliated by Kerala Kalaripayattu Association, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy and Nehru Yuva Kendra (approved by Govt. of India). This Kalari is one of the training centers approved by Kalari Academy of Govt. of Kerala. Choorakkody Kalari Sangam Villiappally has tried to present new styles, by following traditional method but using new approaches. ‘Moonal Kathy”(three men with knives),Vaal Vali (sword techniques), Ven Mahzu, Churikapayattu, Kaikuthipayatu, Vajradhari (waving of long stick) are in the category. C K S Villiappally started demonstration in 1985. It is a demonstration of 30 items done by 10-14 warriors with in two hours. The performers perform the Kalari items accompanying by the traditional musical instrument such as a Chendamelam. Special shows are presented for visitors at Kalari. About 40 items are presented with in a short time. About 500 visitors have visited the Kalari last year. Choorakkodi Kalari teams have visited all over India and many foreign countries; Russia, France, Holland, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain for Kalaripayattu. The team has crowned many times in state championship conducted by Govt. of Kerala. The students of Choorakkodi have won individual championship in B-zone, inter-zone competitions. Our students have been selected to act in Bollywood and Kollywood films for fight scenes and choreography. Ayurvedic treatment and Marma Chikitsa are offered through our special Kalari health centers. Expert Kalari Gurukkals are supervising the massage divisions and special steam bath centers.
