Title: Introduction to Optimization. Basic Concepts Description: This video covers the basic concepts necessary for the study of optimization. Cabrera García, S. (2013). Introduction to Optimization. Basic Concepts. http://hdl.handle.net/10251/30523 Automatic description: This video discusses the basic concepts for formulating optimization problems, including variable identification, the objective function, and constraints. A practical example of a machine shop that produces windows and doors is used to illustrate the linear programming modeling process. The problem is posed of determining the quantity of windows and doors to manufacture to maximize profit, considering constraints such as personnel availability in different workshops and the labor required for each product. The importance of extracting as much information as possible from the problem statement is emphasized. The decision variables are defined as the quantities of windows and doors to be produced. The objective function is to maximize the net profit obtained from the sale of these products. Restrictions related to the number of workers in each workshop and the non-negativity of the variables are established. Finally, it explains how to use these elements to formally express an optimization model that seeks the most beneficial solution within the limits imposed by the workshop constraints.
