This must be the most misunderstood plot point in Pirates of the Caribbean

A thematic analysis of the curse in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), and why it is actually more complex than it seems. It's been two decades since I've first seen this absolute classic, and many things about it have stuck with me since. Hans Zimmer's majestic score and Johnny Depp's standout performance as Jack Sparrow of course, but... so has something else. The curse the crew is plagued by is such a prominent element, and much time is spent elaborating on how cruel and grueling it is. Yet if you think about it, it actually seems... not so bad. Surprisingly lenient, even. In my first video essay, I delve into why this is, and why it's more intentional than might first appear.
